Save water

The little things count

Saving water is child's play

In our daily lives, we consume more water than most of us are conscious of. In Switzerland, an average of 162 liters per day is used per adult in a household. Additionally, there's the electricity needed for the preparation of hot water, which accounts for around 14% of the household energy consumption. By saving water , we not only protect the environment but also our wallets. In this blog post, you will learn where most of the water is consumed and how you can significantly reduce your consumption with small tricks and helpers.

Key Facts about Water Consumption:

Water-saving tips:

Shower Instead of Bath:

While bathing consumes an average of 150 to 200 liters of water, showering only uses 30 to 80 liters. This consumption can be further optimized with some products. By installing consumption displays or flow limiters, you can control and improve your consumption. A simple and affordable method is provided by the Go Green shower coach. It is easily attached in the shower cabin with a suction cup and runs as a timer during the shower. The visualization of the shower duration encourages not to unnecessarily extend the shower process.

Don't Pre-rinse Dishes:

In many households, dishes are pre-rinsed under running water before being put in the dishwasher. Contrary to popular belief, this does not make the dishes cleaner. The associated water consumption is therefore wasteful. To avoid particularly stubborn drying of food residues in the dishwasher, it is sufficient to keep it closed at all times, even when it is not running.

Optimize the Cleaning of Fruits and Vegetables:

Fruits and vegetables are often cleaned under running water. However, it is better to fill a bowl with water and clean the food in it. Afterwards, the water can be used for watering indoor plants or the garden.

Small Devices, Big Impact:

For the preparation of hot water, which is needed for a minute under the shower, more energy is needed on average than for all other electronic devices in the household combined per day. With the following small helpers, you can control and improve your water and electricity consumption:

BOAS Shower Head with LCD Display

This shower head has an LCD display which alternates between the current water flow rate and water temperature. No batteries are needed to power this LCD display since it uses water pressure to operate.

Smart shower experience
The hand shower shows you the current energy consumption and motivates you to handle energy consciously and to conserve energy and water resources. With the associated free app, you not only keep an eye on your consumption, but can also observe the course and the trends of your consumption over time. The real-time information helps to save an average of 22% energy and 3,500 liters in a three-person household per year. By saving energy and water, you also save money - so you can assume that the device will pay for itself over time.

Especially garden owners often have an increased water consumption in the spring and summer months; the plants are cared for and, of course, regularly watered. With eve aqua, the irrigation can be automated. In addition, the small device measures and logs the water consumption. This way, hobby gardeners always have the required amount of water under control. A child lock also prevents unwanted water games.

Water lexicon

pH Value:

The pH value for water is a measure of the concentration of free hydrogen ions, which have acidic or basic character. In drinking water, the pH value usually ranges from neutral to slightly alkaline 7.0 - 8.5. Compliance with these values is very important, for example, for the water pipes. If the pH value is below 7.0, copper should not be used for the pipes; if it is below 7.5, steel should not be used; otherwise, there is a risk of corrosion.

Water Hardness:

The hardness of the water depends on the content of calcium and magnesium compounds. They are created by calcium and magnesium combining with the carbon dioxide dissolved in the water.

Hard water is therefore healthier than soft water for health, as it provides the body with more calcium and magnesium. For a long life of the devices in the household, sufficient and regular descaling should be ensured. Also, when cleaning tiles and fittings, the residues should be removed so that no stubborn residues form.

Chemical Formula: H2O

Not only with water consumption, but also with electricity consumption, small helpers and changes in everyday habits can work wonders. Here you can find our guide "Save electricity".
